What got you into riding a snowboard? When I was living on Long Island my family would drive up to Mount Snow VT, every weekend to ski. One day I was skiing and I was following a snowboarder down the run and I saw him do a 180 and I thought it was the coolest thing ever! So after that day I haven't skied since.
Who are the riders that impress and inspire you the most and why?The riders who inspire me the most are my best friends Broc Waring, Dylan Bidez, Brett Esser and Zack Black. They inspire me the most because every time I ride with them I'm always having fun and we're always pushing each other to learn new tricks.
If you could pick any song in the world to use in a video part what would it be?No Sleep by Wiz Khalifa.
When you aren't shredding what are you up to?Skating and lounging around the house watching movies.
If you could go on a date with any person in the world, who would it be?If I could go on a date with any person in the world it would be definitely be Kate Upton.
Snowy pow day or sunny park day?A snowy pow day with 3 friends would be the perfect day.
What are your thoughts on the recent progression of snowboarding? The progression in snowboarding is ridiculous right now. Just to stay in the game and make finals in big contests you have to have at least two double corks in your run and that’s just crazy. And then Travis Rice and Torstein Horgmo both have triple corks which is insane.
Which 11/12 SIMS board do you prefer to ride?I have been loving the Protocol this year. It’s perfect for riding pipe, pow and park. I really like how it floats in the pow but is very responsive while carving hard packed snow.
Sims is celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year. What does that mean to you? It’s a huge deal to be representing one of the oldest snowboard companies out there and to be on the same team as Craig Kelly, Terry Kidwell, Shaun Palmer, Todd Richards, Chuck Barfoot, and Luke Wynen once were on. It also means a lot hanging out with Tom Sims and talking about all the history of the company because he came up with so many crazy ideas to progress snowboarding that are still around today.
What did you do over the summer?I broke my foot in May so I had a hard cast on for a month while I was going to school at CU Boulder. After I was done with school in late June I did a week session at Woodward at Copper and hung out with kids. When I was done with that I went out to Minnesota for my friend Brennen Swansons wedding which was the most fun I have ever had and then I flew out to New Zealand for about six weeks.
What are your goals for the 11/12 season? My goals for this season coming up is to make finals in all the contests that I enter, make world championships in Oslo, ride as much pow as possible and stay healthy.
What is your first memory of the SIMS brand? My first memory of the SIMS brand would be when my first snowboard coach Jake Jaffa had a SIMS board and I saw him ride it everyday when I was in 6th grade.
